It certainly has been a busy time; summer board in July, fall board in August, our district meeting in September- and now, before we can even catch our breaths, we are preparing for the South Eastern Region Conference. Fortunately for weary Tennesseans, the SER is here this year, in beautiful Knoxville- beginning on Halloween!
The District meeting was terrific. I want to thank my Executive Committee and the Board of Directors for everything they did to make the various meetings go smoothly and productively.
The GFWC Renaissance WC and the GFWC Sparta WC outdid themselves as host clubs. (We always have a good time in Sparta). The meeting was held in the First Baptist Church. The decorations were lovely, the lunch was extremely delicious, and the goodie bags and door prizes were UNBELIEVABLE! (Special thanks for Marjorie Stevens for all the nice stuff). Many, many thanks to Rev. J. D. Davis for the use of his church and for his wonderful and on-target talk about stewardship. It started the meeting off on the right foot.
We got a lot of work done. The budget was approved; the new handbooks were handed out; the date for the Spring meeting was set (April 4 in Cookeville). GFWC of TN Johnnie Hill spoke to us about the importance of increasing our membership and information about the SER conference was provided to members.
I want to encourage everyone to attend this conference. It is a federation experience that every member should have at least once.
- Be sure to make your room reservations now!
- Get your registration forms in ASAP.
- Remember to bring an item for the White Elephant Auction, wrapped and with a clue to its contents attached.
And please be willing to lend a hand. Hostesses, in particular, are needed, so let me know if I can count on you to be gracious to our many out-of-state colleagues. AND LET ME KNOW SOON!
I am so looking forward to seeing you all in Knoxville!
Kate Lapczynski, President, GFWC of TN Highland Rim District
